Crazy Buildings on Top of Buildings

Posted by MyRealty.am

#1 Movin' On Up

They're often a little eccentric, but always seem like a pretty great idea (such as this green roof atop Chicago's City Hall). Here's a look at some of the world's craziest buildings that were built on top of other buildings.

#2 Sydney, Australia

The photo on the right shows a simple art deco building. But if you look closely at the photo on the left, you'll find an ultra-modern metallic home nesting on top.

#3 Loftcube, London

This $2000 prefabricated house offers modern living above the eighth story of a building in London.

#4 Syracuse, NY

The old victiorian house on top of this old manufacturing building is actually just a shell which contains the machinery that runs the building's freight elevator.

#5 Hong Kong, China

With real estate so expensive in Hong Kong, and the population steadily growing, some people just improvise and build their own illegal homes on top of other buildings. Creative? Crazy? Both? Yes.

#6 New York City, New York

Check out this modern, three-story luxury home on top of an old apartment building in New York City.

#7 Tampa, Florida

This Futuro UFO House sits on top of a night club in Tampa, Florida.

#8 Amsterdam, Netherlands

No one's going to be living in this tiny treehouse perched atop the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam. But it's cool so it makes the list!

#9 West Broadway, New York City

Here's a complex of several small buildings and patio areas on top of a building in New York City.

#10 13th Street and 3rd Ave, New York City

This mysterious house appears to be an actual residence, with a patio and a chimney.

#2 Lyons Demesne

Lyons Demesne hit the market again for a price tag of $65 million. It is the estate of discount airline Ryanair founder Tony Ryan, who reportedly spent $120 million restoring the property. The home was originally listed for $100 million in 2009, and even with the price slash it'll still be the most expensive home sold in Ireland -- that is, when it does sell!

#3 Spelling Manor

#4 Th Woolworth Mansion

Located in New York City on 80th and Fifth Avenue, the home known as the Woolworth mansion is currently listed with Christie's for $90 million. The home was built in the 1890s when retail chain magnate Frank Woolworth

#12 Villa Leopolda

Built in 1902 by King Leopold II of Belgium, the famous French Riviera villa was reportedly purchased for $736 million by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. La Leopolda was used as a set in the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock film "To Catch a Thief".

#13 Antilla

#14 Hala Ranch

The Hala Ranch estate north of Aspen, Colorado was one of the most expensive houses ever to hit the market in the United States when it was purchased in 2006 for $135 million by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan. The 56,000 square foot home was built in 1991 and features its own wastewater treatment plant and, mechanical shop, gasoline pumps, and car wash.
